What to Know About Piercings Before Getting One
Sydney is home to millions of people, making the city a melting pot of cultures. Whether you are a free-spirited individual who enjoys heart-racing adventures or a more laid back individual who prefers the calmness of sitting by the beach, Sydney can offer both. Given the diversity in your options, it is no surprise that the city is an ideal place to try new things. In particular, one of the things you can try is to get a piercing. From septum rings to large hoop earrings, it is no doubt that piercings are always in fashion.
Much like getting a tattoo, however, getting a body piercing in Sydney for the first time can be daunting and exciting. Whether it be in your ear, septum, belly, or another area, the feeling is the same. If you are set on getting one, however, then you should think less about the possible pain and instead focus on how you should prepare for it. Before getting pierced for the first time, here are some of the things you should know to ensure a smooth experience.
Eat Something
Before going to your piercing appointment, make sure to eat something. If possible, have a full meal to keep your blood sugar steady and avoid feeling nauseous during the procedure. Low blood sugar level can cause you to feel dizzy when getting a body piercing in Sydney, so you want to avoid this scenario as much as possible.
Inspect for Sterility
Everything that is used for your piercing should be sterile, so the moment you walk into the studio, inspect the place and equipment. The jewellery, needle, piercing room, and hands of the piercer have to be clean and sterile, so if you do not see this, it may be a sign that you need to choose a different studio. Trusting your instincts also comes in handy–if you do not feel comfortable the moment you walk into a piercing salon, it may not be the right one for you.
Understand Pain Relativity
The thought of getting a piercing is often associated with pain, but one thing to remember is that everyone’s experience is different. You will have a different pain tolerance from other people, so try not to overwhelm yourself with the thought of the pain. There is nothing wrong with mentally preparing yourself, but do not let the thought bother you too much that it becomes distracting.
Emphasise Aftercare
Cleaning your piercing is crucial to prevent any infections. Healing time can vary from one person to another, though it will take an average of eight to 10 weeks, and sometimes longer. Ask your piercer for the proper aftercare regimen, though the usual recommendation is to use soap and water or a warm saline solution. Though the cleaning process is not that difficult, the challenge is sticking to the routine. It can be easy to forget about this simple step every day, but keeping your piercing clean is key to proper healing.
Be Patient
It can be exciting thinking about the earrings or nose rings you will be wearing once your piercing heals, but the important thing is to take your time. Some people choose to leave their earring for a longer time, so if you can, wait it out before changing it. If you start to realise any form of irritation, it could be your body getting used to a foreign object. However, you can also visit a professional if you are worried about possible infections.
