Top 5 Tips For Building Your Brand From Scratch

Many people dream of starting their own business and building a brand from scratch. The critical aspect of any dream is to follow through. While thinking about your brand’s popularity and possibilities is exciting, you have to start from nothing. You won’t even have a virtual office background in the beginning.

If you want to build a brand from scratch, there are several steps you need to take before you even get to launch your product or service. There are at least five fundamental steps to launching a successful brand.

1. Defining Your Mission and Values

Before you can build any business of value, you must understand why you want to build it. What will your brand stand for? While any for-profit business exists to make a profit, you must go beyond the money element. Focus on what problem your product or service can solve. For example, if you are selling a new design for carry-on luggage, maybe your objective is to provide greater organization than other bags on the market.

Beyond the mission of the brand, you must establish its core values. Your brand’s values are more than a mantra for PR. Values must seep into every aspect of the business; they must guide and shape business decisions and how people perceive the company.

2. Researching and Understanding Your Audience

Once you understand your mission and goals, you must find an audience ready to accept or in need of the brand. Finding your audience is about more than identifying single mothers or college students. You must create detailed profiles of your ideal customers. The profiles should identify key:

  • Demographics
  • Pain points
  • Preferences

Beyond identifying a target consumer, you also must learn where to find them using online and offline channels. Take the time to understand what social platforms or online communities your customers are most active on. Also, learn what type of social activities they prefer.

3. Creating Distinctive Visuals and Voice

After defining and researching your audience, it’s time to create distinctive and appealing brand imagery and find its voice. You want your logo to be professional and versatile. You should be able to use it on marketing materials, in offices, and as a Zoom virtual office background. You must choose colors and fonts that reinforce your brand’s personality and represent its audience.

When defining the brand’s voice, you must ask yourself several questions. Do you want the voice to be friendly, approachable, or authoritative? The voice must be consistent across all marketing and messaging materials.

4. Showing Off Your Brand

Now, it’s time to show off your hard work. You want to create content for a professional website, social media, and promotional materials. Take everything you learned and target your audience’s hang-outs with posts, videos, business cards, and merchandise.

5. Using Professional Meeting Backgrounds

During brand development and promotional phases, you will likely hold several meetings, including virtual meetings. You must ensure your virtual office background is a clean, decluttered representation of your brand. Use your logo and adapt it to various virtual meeting services.

Building a brand from scratch is no walk in the park, but it is doable with patience and perseverance. Contact a local business consultant to learn more.
