Top 5 Players in the Premier League

Share

The English soccer season got underway recently with a host of the world’s best players looking to lead their teams to glory.

It’s one of the best soccer leagues in the world, with $1.69bn having been spent on new players for the upcoming campaign. As well as the new faces there are plenty of world stars currently playing with clubs looking for success.

In this article, we are going to look at the top five players in the Premier League this season.

Sergio Agüero

When Sergio Agüero put Manchester City ahead in the Champions League quarter-final against Spurs, it seemed he might be on the cusp of firing his side to the one trophy they’ve so far failed to win.

That wasn’t the case, but his goals did ensure another Premier League title for Pep Guardiola’s side – their second in succession.

The Argentinian has been a key part of the Blues’ success over the last eight seasons, scoring 165 goals. He’s expected to be the club’s leading scorer once more as he looks to fire them to both domestic and European success this season.

Mo Salah

Liverpool have yet to win a Premier League title, but in finishing on 97 points last year, they became the most successful runner up in the history of the division. Mo Salah played a key role, scoring 22 times as they claimed another second-place spot.

He also bagged Champions League goals as they secured their sixth European Cup since its inception.

The Guardian claim one of Jose Mourinho’s biggest mistakes as Blues boss was letting Salah leave Chelsea and as he approaches another season looking for glory with Liverpool, it’s hard to disagree with that.

Kevin De Bruyne

Another player Mourinho let leave the Blues is Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, arguably the finest midfielder in the English league.

He helped Manchester City to the domestic treble last season, scoring and creating goals from several positions in the middle of the park.

De Bruyne told the Manchester Evening News that Jürgen Klopp tried to sign him for Borussia Dortmund, but he’ll be looking to guide his side to the title ahead of his former suitor’s current side, Liverpool.

Harry Kane

The Spurs and England center forward is perhaps the biggest English star currently playing in the Premier League.

Coral’s guide to last year’s World Cup shows how England reached the semi-final before being knocked out by Croatia – a feat made possible by Kane’s goalscoring prowess. He scored six times in the tournament, which the BBC report led to him winning the competition’s Golden Boot.

Last season he was integral as Spurs reached the final of the Champions League, the single biggest club competition in Europe. Sadly for Kane, he was injured in the run up to the game and was only half fit for their final against Liverpool.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Playing for unfashionable Gabon, Aubameyang isn’t a player who’s likely to grace the World Cup anytime soon. That doesn’t detract from his fine domestic form, nor his impact in Europe as he helped Arsenal to the Europa League final last season.

Sky Sports report the fee that took him to North London was in the region of $72.2m, a record fee for the Gunners at the time.

He’ll be hoping to link with new record signing Nicolas Pepe this season and help Arsenal qualify for the Champions League.
