With its exclusive past of distinct religions, rulers, and empires, many places in India are considered UNESCO World Heritage sites due to their cultural significance.
The grandeur India preserves attracts many worldwide and serves for a great tourist destination.
The Taj Mahal
Constructed in 1648 A.D, one of the world’s Seven wonders, the Taj Mahal is a monument whose beauty can’t be expressed in words. A place that everyone wants to visit and is the most prominent historical place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Looming reminiscently from the banks of the Yamuna River, this palace was built in memory of Mumtaz Mahal, who was the beloved of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The marble marvel is an architectural wonder and a symbol of undying love.
The monument is built from a rare white marble carrying intricate carvings. The quirky thing about this mahal is that its color changes gradually as the day progresses. From a pinkish hue to milky white, the Taj Mahal glows and captivates.
Qutub Minar
The red stone tower is one of the world’s tallest brick minarets. Constructed by the first ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, Qutub-Uddin-Aibak, the fine architectural attraction was completed by his successor, Iltutmish. Constructed with five-stored structures, the first three are red sandstone, whereas the other two are pure white marble. The artistic carvings on its walls are what pull the audience.
The 72.5 meters tall minaret was built in the 1100s and was made to celebrate Muslim dominance after defeating the last Hindu ruler.
Khajuraho Temples
The Khajuraho temples are evidence of the famous Kamasutra, the texts and practices originated from here. This place is full of erotica as twenty temples there are devoted to sexuality and carnal expression. The masterful sculptures portray a celebration of love, life, and worship. Built by the Chandela dynasty’s rulers, these temples give tourists a peek into the ancient Hindu faith and Tantric practices. These temples were active until the Muslim invaders seized them.
Hawa Mahal
A dome-shaped mahal comprises 953 windows and is a popular destination for tourists in Jaipur. Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh built the tallest palace in 1799. Despite having an idiosyncratic curve shape, the palace still stands and has a pyramidical shape. The goal behind building this palace of winds was to let the royal women watch and observe everyday public activities. From the City palace to Jantar Mantar, the charmer of India can be seen from the top floor.
The Gateway of India
Perhaps the most notable monument in India is its gateway. Occupying a prominent position at the Colaba harbor, it was erected in honor of Queen Mary and King George V’s tour of the city back in 1911. The construction, however, wasn’t completed until 1924. The monument plays a prominent role in India’s rich history.
Bottom Line!
Hindustan has breathtaking views and monuments that conserve traditional history and diverse culture. It is an ideal place to visit for tourists.
