Tips for Achieving Perfect Wine Serving Temperature

If you drink wine, there is a very good chance that you have at some point in time tried a wine that had come highly recommended, but when you actually tried it, found that it was quite underwhelming, leaving you feeling disappointed. If this has ever happened to you, there is a good chance that the wine was simply not served in a way that let the bottle of wine really shine.

With that being said, the temperature of the wine and the type of glass that it is served in is going to greatly affect its aromas, as well as it’s flavored and even the practice of decanting. Knowing exactly how to achieve the perfect wine serving temperature with ducted wine cellar cooling units is going to help you always pour the perfect glass of wine, no matter what the occasion may be. Here is how to achieve the perfect wine serving temperature.

Pretend That the Wine is Like Goldilocks

When it comes to wine and its serving temperature, it is going to need to be just right. If it is too hot, the wine’s alcohol content will be emphasized, meaning that it will come out flabby and flat. If it is served too cold, you can expect all of the flavors and aromas to be muted, and even worse for reds, the tannins will seem to be much harsher and astringent. It happens all too much when people serve white wines right out of the refrigerator, while the reds are simply opened at whatever the room temperature may be.

Unfortunately, neither of these is going to be ideal when it comes to really savor the taste and the flavors that a good bottle of wine is designed to provide you with. While the ‘perfect temperature’ to serve wine is going to be something that is 100 percent dependent upon your individual tastes, here are some general guidelines that you should always follow when it comes to wine and the appropriate serving temperature.

  • Sparkling wines and dry white wines: These are going to ideally be served between 40-50 degrees, helping to preserve their fruitiness and freshness.
  • Fruity reds and full-bodied white wines: These are best to be served between 50-60 degrees, which is going to be the range of temperature that will help pick up more of the aromatics and complexity of the wine.
  • Ports and full-bodied red wines: These are best served at between 60-65 degrees. This temperature range is going to be a little cooler than most room temperatures, but warmer than most cellaring temperatures. This is going to be the range that will make the wine’s tannings the most powerful, as well as de-emphasize any bitter components that the wine may have.

When it comes to serving different types of wine, there is no ideal temperature that will make them taste even better. With that being said, however, there are going to be certain temperature ranges that will help to maximize the flavors that the wine has to offer you.
