Spotify's lossless audio HiFi tier has pricing that is more expensive than purchasing 4K Netflix, available for $20 a month

The long-awaited HiFi tier of Spotify might soon be available. New information on the “Supremium” tier is revealed through code in the Spotify app, which may include 24-bit lossless audio, playlist creation using AI, and other things.

With more than 200 million monthly users, it is the most frequently used streaming music service in the world. Spotify has increased its prices multiple times during this time while also promising an audiophile-focused HiFi tier.

The more expensive HiFi tier was first teased by Spotify in February 2021, but since then, nothing has happened with it. The tier was last discussed in June of this year when a Bloomberg article revealed that Spotify has renamed the HiFi tier as “Supremium.” The results from the Redditor support this assertion because they show that Spotify now describes the audio as lossless with “no lag and delays.”

The much-anticipated HiFi tier may soon open, which is good news for many. New information on the Supremium tier is revealed via code from the Spotify app, which may include 24-bit lossless music, the ability to produce playlists using artificial intelligence, and more.

The Redditor also discovered that the Supremium tier might offer 30 hours of audiobook listening per month along with the option to organize your collection by activity, mood, and genre.

The app’s source code also refers to sophisticated mixing tools that let you customize the order of playlists according to beats per minute, enabling seamless transitions between tracks, and sorting music in a playlist by mood or genre. You may even use the “soundcheck” tool to “learn more about your listening habits and discover what mix of sounds is uniquely you.”

The cost of Supremium is indicated as $19.99 per month after further investigation into the app’s source code, though the Redditor cautions that this “could just be a placeholder.” The cost, however, is consistent with some of the other data we have found. A $19.99 “Platinum” tier that would contain HiFi and other features was suggested in a Spotify survey from the previous year.

“At Spotify, we are constantly iterating and ideating to improve our product offering and offer value to users,” Spotify spokesperson CJ Stanley tells The Verge. “But we don’t comment on speculation around possible new features and do not have anything new to share at this time.”

It’s unclear whether HiFi audio, AI playlists, and some of the other features included in the code will be enough to entice customers to a $19.99 per month pricing tier given that Spotify’s current Premium plan is priced at $10.99.

After all, lossless audio is a no added cost under the current plans of both Apple Music and Amazon Music.

This assertion is supported by the Redditor’s results, which state that Spotify now describes the audio as “lossless and lag-free.”

The Redditor also learned that the Supremium tier might provide 30 hours of audiobooks each month in addition to allowing users to browse the library according to mood, activity, and genre.

Almost 20 euros per month for high-quality music listening

The Redditor found the price for Supremium to be $19.99 per month after looking into the app’s source code, though they warn that this “might be just a placeholder.”

The cost is consistent with other tests we’ve observed, though. A “Platinum” tier with HiFi and other features would be priced at $19.99, according to a Spotify survey from the previous year.

It’s unclear whether HiFi audio, AI-generated playlists, and some other features found in the code will be enough to persuade users to pay almost $20 per month when Spotify’s current Premium plan is priced at $10.99.

After all, lossless audio is included in both Apple Music and Amazon Music’s current subscriptions at no extra cost.
