Sergejs Kartasovs earned his degree of BA in Science and Computing from the University of Malta in 2005. Then, he got his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Riga Business School. He has a 10-year experience of working in the banking sector with potential clients from the UK and Eastern Europe. He has been working in the field of asset management and investment assessment for the last five years. He took the position of the CEO of Generation Partners, an IT asset management company based in Cyprus, in 2019. He recently talked about his working experience as an analyst of IT startups.
The asset management analysts have some important duties including analyzing the market, reducing the financial risk, diversifying the investment portfolio of clients, and studying the future prospects of a company. “Developers are geeks, but often they behave like creative people. Often, they can create an ingenious product, but at the same time, they may not be able to competently bring it to the market,” said Sergejs Kartasovs. He said that marketing and management flaws could result in the loss of the brightest product in highly competitive markets. The role of an analyst is to find the best products like a gold hunter and bring them to the investors. In order to reduce the risk, the financial analysts prefer diversifying the investment portfolio of their clients.

The analysis of an IT startup is based on its location, recent income, experience, age, and investment from other investors. “It is better to choose companies that have developed a unique innovative product that solves an urgent problem,” advised Sergejs Kartasovs. The problem-solving capability of a new product allows it to stand alone in competitive markets. It eliminates risks and improves the cost of the product and the IT startup.
The asset management analysts also have the responsibility of recommending a proper location to the IT startups. The CEO of Generation Partners considers Cyprus as the best location for relocating IT companies, especially from post-Soviet countries.
