Philippines Independence Day 2021: Google Doodle Celebrates Filipino Day of Freedom

Google Doodle observes Philippines Independence Day (Araw ng Kasarinlán; otherwise called Araw ng Kalayaan, “Day of Freedom”), an annual national holiday in the Filipino.

Referred to in the Philippines as ‘Araw ng Kasarinlan’, or ‘Day of Freedom’, this day remembers the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12th, 1898.

Philippines Independence Day History

Since the middle of the sixteenth century, the Philippines had been important for the Spanish Empire.

4 July was praised as Independence Day until 1964. Subsequent to mounting pressure from the community, the government pronounced that 12 June would be The Philippines’ Independence Day and a national holiday. 4 July in the Philippines would then become the Philippines’ Republic Day.

On June 12, 2021, Google observes Philippines Independence Day 2021 with a Google Doodle.

The present Doodle honors this historic anniversary, celebrated annually as Philippines Independence Day.
