Philadelphia Phillies are one game away from winning the World Series when Kyle Schwarber makes history

Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1 on a night in Game 5 when Kyle Schwarber created postseason history, putting them one game away from another World Series.

With the victory, the Phillies lead the National League Championship Series (NLCS), which is a best-of-seven series, 3-2.

During the postseason, the Phillies have been hitting home runs for enjoyment, and every nearly every night, leadoff hitter Kyle Schwarber sets the tone for his team.

In the top of the sixth inning, with Philadelphia leading 2-0, Schwarber took the mound after scoring a run in the first.

A scene that opposing fans have seen countless times, the 30-year-old blasted a massive home run to right center field. Schwarber was also inducted into history with the 461-footer.

After smashing No. 11, the Phillies’ star designated hitter has now surpassed baseball legend Albert Pujols to have the most home runs in NLCS history.

In addition, Schwarber extended a record he broke on Friday by rising to the top of the list of left-handed postseason home runs. He now has twenty to his credit. Additionally, Schwarber is only the fifth player to reach 20, and he did so more quickly than any other.

Bryce Harper continued his amazing postseason with a 444-foot home run in the top of the sixth inning. With this, Harper tied Jayson Werth and teammate Schwarber for the franchise record for most postseason home runs ever with 11 for the Phillies.

After taking a one-two punch, Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen remarked, “The thing about Harper and Schwarber is, those guys are so intelligent. They’ve been around. You’ve got to hope you’re one step ahead of them. It’s hard. And then being able to leave the yard at any point is what makes it even harder.

“It’s wild. Solo homers don’t beat you, but a team that hits solo homers a lot, they tend to add up after a while.”

After Alek Thomas gave Diamondbacks fans a glimmer of hope with a home run in the seventh inning, J.T. Realmuto added the cherry on top with a two-run home run in the eighth to seal the Phillies’ victory.

Now, the Phillies’ home game at Citizen Bank Park on Monday offers them the chance to go to the World Series.
