The NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs have signed their quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a 10-year contract extension that his agent says is the most rewarding agreement in sports history. Patrick Mahomes has concurred a 10-year contract with Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs which will supposedly make him the highest-paid athlete in the world.
Patrick Mahomes, who won the NFL MVP award and led the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl championship last season, is currently under agreement with the Chiefs through the 2031 NFL season. The team declared the agreement extension, however, didn’t affirm the terms of the deal.
The 10-year extension is allegedly worth $450 million. The extension brings the total expected estimation of Patrick Mahomes’ current agreement to as much as $503 million between the 2020 and 2031 NFL seasons.
The quarterback’s new deal is supposed to be worth up to $503 million (£402.9m).
As indicated by the official NFL site, Mahomes becomes the first athlete with a half-billion-dollar contract and the first American football player to be the highest-paid athlete in the sports world.
In a post on Instagram, Patrick Mahomes’ agent Chris Cabott touted the memorable idea of the gigantic agreement. “First half-billion-dollar player in sports history. Largest contract in sports history. First time NFL player has been the highest-paid player in sports history,” Cabott composed close by an image of Mahomes signing the agreement.
“This is a significant moment for our franchise and for the Chiefs Kingdom,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said in a statement. “Since he joined the Chiefs just a few years ago, Patrick has developed into one of the most prolific athletes in all of the sports.”
“He’s an extraordinary leader and a credit to the Kansas City community, and I’m delighted that he will be a member of the Chiefs for many years to come,” Hunt added.
Patrick Mahomes, who tweeted a video with the caption “Here to stay”, initially entered the NFL as the tenth overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs.
He has begun 31 games in three NFL seasons with the franchise, throwing for 9,412 yards with 76 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in the regular season.
Patrick Mahomes’ deal passes baseball’s Mike Trout as the biggest one in the sport after the Los Angeles Angels player signed a 12-year-contract said to be worth up 426.5 million US dollars in March 2019.
Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid communicated his fervor at the possibility of coaching Patrick Mahomes for years to come, saying in an announcement, “I’ve had the privilege of coaching a lot of incredible athletes and special people in my career, and Patrick is without question on that list of players. The best part is he’s still early in his career.”
Patrick Mahomes has been with the Kansas CityChiefs since 2017 when he was appointed by the team as the tenth overall pick in the first round of the draft. The Texas native played at Texas Tech before being drafted.
