Municipality and DICLA collaborate to provide youth with empowerment

Councillor Nyaniso Nelani, the Mayor of King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, has confirmed that the municipality has teamed up with Ntinga OR Tambo Development Agency and Development Intensive Community Land Agriculture (DICLA) Training and Projects to equip jobless youth in the municipality with agricultural skills.

Last week, this collaboration was introduced at Mthatha Stadium in Mthatha.

He announced the launch of a leadership program aimed at helping young people living in this municipality who are unemployed advance their skill set.

“The beneficiaries come from all the wards under this municipality. They will be trained in different categories of agriculture, which include ploughing, poultry farming, and mixed farming.

“Due to the high unemployment rate, we are trying to assist young people so that they can have something to do,” said Nelani.

He went on to say that because of this program, they will be able to start their own businesses in the future, which will change their lives.

Nelani stated that the beneficiaries will process their products at the Mthatha abattoir and Kei Fresh Produce Market.

This training lasts for a full year, according to Lizo Mandlendoda, managing director of DICLA Training and Projects.

“There are so many programmes that we will be doing to assist youth, even Ntinga OR Tambo Development Agency has some programmes that help the youth.

“As we have started this partnership, we will keep on supporting them,” said Mandlendoda.

He said that although the pandemic caused them to halt the project in 2019, they had assisted young people from several provinces.

Mandlendoda urged the recipients to cherish this chance and make sure they avoid unneeded distractions that could cause them to lose concentration.

“Do not take this opportunity for granted, because we are trying to help you so that you must have something for your future.”
