Microsoft Plans to Stop Marketing Xbox Consoles in Some EMEA Markets, Europe, and Other Regions

Microsoft and Xbox have had an incredibly hectic week—and not in a good way. Microsoft’s premier gaming subscription service, Game Pass, was set to undergo significant modifications, including a price hike, just a few days ago. Game Pass subscription codes have surged to the top of CDKeys’ bestsellers list as existing users try to stack months at a reduced rate. Those changes are set to take effect in September, but their effects are already being noticed.

Xbox is still an important piece of Microsoft’s overall gaming strategy, although it has been reduced to one piece for several years. With everything from Game Pass to PC gaming to cloud gaming and more continuing to gain popularity, Microsoft’s value of traditional consoles has gotten progressively diluted over time. It appears the company is about to put additional policies into place behind the scenes that will emphasize this point even more.

It seems like Microsoft is looking to modify its marketing strategies in light of these developments. The computer giant may eventually discontinue selling Xbox consoles in EMEA, according to trustworthy source Tom Warren. Europe, the Middle East, and Asia make up the EMEA regions, which account for a sizeable share of the global gaming population.

It’s said that Microsoft would prioritize Game Pass, Accessories, and the Cloud.

Warren wrote about the facts he got from a tipster in his Notepad newsletter. Warren acknowledges that he hasn’t finished confirming the information that was sent to him in May, but considering his strong background, it’s still worthwhile looking into it.

Actually, it wouldn’t be a very shocking move. This is due to the significant efforts Microsoft has made over the years to advance its efforts in cloud gaming. A little while ago, it was revealed that Xbox and Amazon’s Fire TV devices were collaborating to integrate cloud gaming, which boosted those efforts even further. Without a console, those with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription can access a variety of Xbox titles, including Starfield, through it.

It looks like Microsoft has a plan in place. It’s incorporating cloud gaming features into as many non-console entities as it can, which would necessitate using Game Pass Ultimate and an Xbox controller or other suitable controller. That being said, it becomes obvious that the strategies would change when you combine those initiatives with the generally poor sales of the Xbox Series line of consoles. Nevertheless, it’s yet another intriguing advancement amid a sea of choices that are getting more and more complex. If Xbox can profit from all these bets, only time will tell.

Microsoft just revealed that it is raising Game Pass fees once more and that the standard Xbox Game Pass console tier is being replaced with the new Xbox Game Pass Standard, which excludes day one titles.
