Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ TV series will extend with HBO Max

Matt Reeves who is directing the new Batman film featuring Robert Pattinson has collaborated with HBO Max for a TV series set in the caped crusader’s hometown Gotham City. The Batman universe is extending, with a TV series set in Gotham City’s department that will investigate corruption, streaming platform HBO Max said on Friday.

Reeves is joined by Terrence Winter who made HBO’s acclaimed period crime drama Boardwalk Empire.

HBO Max (T.N) said the first drama series would be created by Matt Reeves, director of the upcoming Warner Bros. film The Batman that stars Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader with no special superpowers.

The series will be “set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham,” as indicated by press release.

The Batman is set when the DC comic book character is around 30 years of age and toward an amazing start as a vigilante, Reeves has said.

Matt Reeves said the TV series was “an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long-form format can afford.”

No casting, title, or expected broadcast date was reported.

It has not been affirmed if Pattinson will show up in this TV series.

Shooting on The Batman was stopped in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic yet is relied upon to continue in the UK in the next few weeks for a movie theater release in October 2021.
