July 14th is Bastille Day, France’s national day. It denotes the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, a defining moment of the French Revolution that prompted the formation of the main French Republic. NEW YORK CITY

FIAF’s Bastille Day Celebration

What:

Live music and dance exhibitions, wine and champagne tastings, a screening of Azuro, fun French exercises for youngsters and adults, raffles, and in excess of 40 booths showcasing French food and Francophone culture, introduced by the French Institute Alliance Française

Screening of Fever Mounts at El Pao

What: Screening of Fever Mounts at El Pao (la Fièvre monte à El Pao) from Films on the Green, a free outside French film festival, created yearly in New York City parks by Villa Albertine, the French Embassy, FACE Foundation, and NYC Parks

Bastille Day Celebration at Murray’s Cheese Shop

What: Bastille Day-themed French cheddar tasting

Where: Murray’s Cheese Shop (254 Bleecker St, New York, NY)

French Festival in Central Park

What: Theater, music, and a DJ set, introduced by the Consulate General of France in New York

Where: Rumsey Playfield in Central Park (69th St./fifth Ave. or then again 72nd St./fifth Ave.)

Myriam Phiro’s Bastille Day Celebration

What: A show featuring internationally acclaimed chanteuse Myriam Phiro

Hot Sugar Band at Lincoln Center

What: The New York City introduction of France’s Hot Sugar Band, whose sound is a blend of Django Reinhardt’s large band works, John Kirby’s sextet, and Duke Ellington classics

Le Bal Français
