Know about Alyssa Nakken, baseball coach who makes history by coaching first base
Alyssa Nakken had her place in the Giants’ first-base coaching box in the last innings of a presentation game vs the A’s, becoming the first woman to coach on the field in MLB history.
Alyssa Nakken was named to the Giants’ coaching staff in January, however, she won’t be in the burrow during games. MLB rules direct a seven-coach maximum during game time. Nakken will be in uniform, yet in the clubhouse during that time.

Who is Alyssa Nakken?
Alyssa Nakken, recruited to the Giants’ coaching staff in January 2020, became the first woman to be named a coach on an MLB staff. While her official title is assistant coach, Nakken had the chance to mentor first base for a few innings during the Giants’ last show game vs the Athletics on July 20. In her role, she will concentrate on superior and clubhouse culture.
However, holding down the first base box isn’t something Alyssa Nakken is new too: She remained in the first base box a few times during intrasquad games over the summer. She worked intently nearby first base coach Antoan Richardson over the summer, managing outfield and baserunning guidance.

She earned a master’s degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco in 2015.
Alyssa Nakken is additionally an exceptionally promoted competitor in her own right. A three-sport star in secondary school, Nakken was named to the All-Pacific Coast softball conference team for every one of the four years during her stint at Sacramento State, with a first-team nod in 2009. During her time as a Hornet, she batted .304 with 19 home runs at first base.
“I feel a great sense of responsibility,” Alyssa Nakken said in February (via MLB.com). “Coaching, I never saw it. This job has kind of been hidden for so long. I’m so excited to be in this role for the challenge and the opportunity to make an impact on this organization that I love.
“But also, I’m excited that now girls can see there is a job on the field in baseball. It’s really cool.”
Alyssa Nakken is leading a women’s revolution in baseball, which incorporates the Yankees’ Rachel Balkovec, the Cubs’ Rachel Folden, and the Cardinals’ Christina Whitlock.
