Instagram is launching a new set of direct messaging (DM) features to improve the smoothness, accessibility, and interest of discussions. Message translations, music sharing with friends without leaving chats, scheduled messages and reminders, pinned content, and group chat QR codes are some of the latest Instagram DM features to connect without interfering with a chat’s flow.
The ability to translate messages written or received in several languages is another recent innovation; at launch, 99 languages are available.
International celebrities Jennie and Doechii helped launch Instagram’s music-sharing feature by posting it on their broadcast channels.
Users can select “Music” by tapping the sticker button in the chat composer to activate the feature. They can then use Instagram’s music library to search for songs and offer a 30-second preview via broadcast channels or group chats.
With 99 languages enabled at launch, the ability to translate messages sent or received in other languages is another new feature.
Additionally, by long-pressing a message and choosing “Pin,” users may now pin images, memes, reels, or messages to the top of a chat on Instagram. Each conversation can have up to three messages pinned for convenient reference.
Similar to Apple’s iMessage, users will also be able to schedule messages. They can schedule the message to be sent up to 29 days in advance by long-pressing the “send” button, which allows them to choose the date and time.
Sending pals song previews without switching apps is now simpler thanks to Instagram’s built-in feature that allows audio sharing directly in DMs.
To share a song:
Recipients can play, pause, fast-forward, or rewind the snippet—which will show up as a spinning vinyl sticker—without ever leaving the chat window. This feature makes music recommendations more interactive and works in both group and one-on-one chats.
This new feature is for you if you’ve ever lost an essential message in a long chat thread. To make messages easier to find, Instagram users can now pin certain messages within a conversation.
To pin a message:
The oldest pinned message will be replaced once you’ve reached the maximum of three messages per chat. A wide range of content is supported by this feature, including:
This update’s message translation capability, which supports 99 languages, is among its most noteworthy features. Instagram has made communication with people who speak a foreign language easier if you’ve ever found it difficult.
To translate a message, just:
For international communications, travel, and even small businesses that deal with clients from around the world, this option is quite helpful. To enhance its translation service, Meta does point out that translated messages are shared with the business.

The ability to schedule messages to be sent at a specified time on Instagram is a great feature for corporate communications, reminders, and cross-time zone coordination.
To schedule a message:
Only the sender will be able to see the scheduled message until it is delivered. The “Scheduled message” section at the bottom of the chat window is where users can find their scheduled messages.
By implementing QR code invites, Instagram is also simplifying the process of inviting users to group chats. Users may now create a QR code for a group chat that can be scanned to join immediately, eliminating the need to individually add each member.
To generate a QR code for a group chat:
This feature is particularly useful for community discussions, event planning, and huge groups. To control access, group admins can also choose to update the QR code whenever necessary.
Lastly, Instagram has made it possible to use a QR code to invite friends to a group chat. Users can choose the “QR Code” option from the invite link, which can be saved as an image to the Camera Roll for later use or shared live using the share sheet.
Instagram wants to become a more comprehensive choice for users who want to use the app as their main communications tool by giving its direct messages additional features.
Users of iOS and Android are progressively getting access to these additional features; web access is expected later. Instagram’s focus on making DMs more dynamic and user-friendly is reflected in these enhancements, which make it easier to share music, schedule important texts, and translate messages on the fly.
