Leading dermatologist Dr Archit Aggarwal compares microneedling and microdermabrasion, two popular skin rejuvenation procedures, to help decide the best treatment for various skin concerns.
Microneedling involves using fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process and results in increased collagen production, which can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
Microdermabrasion, however, uses a device to remove the top layer of dead skin cells through gentle exfoliation. This method is often used to improve the overall texture and tone of the skin, as well as reduce the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation.
Dr Archit Aggarwal, a leading dermatologist in Faridabad and also one of the top dermatologists listed on Clinicspots, states that microneedling is an effective option for those with severe skin concerns, such as deep wrinkles, enlarged pores, skin discolouration or skin tone, stretch marks, thin and wrinkled skin or acne scars. In addition, Microneedling also effectively treats alopecia areata (an autoimmune disorder) and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Microneedling is an outpatient procedure, but they need to apply an ice pack to reduce the swelling, redness and irritation for a few days. They also need to avoid the sun till healing is complete. Microneedling does not cause skin discolouration like light, lasers, or heat procedures, which is its main advantage. Also, Dr Archit Aggarwal recommends this procedure to patients with dark skin tones.
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that involves skin planning; the dermatologist scraps the topmost layer of skin with a specialized instrument. In other words, the dermatologist ‘sands’ away the damaged skin to reveal smoother skin.
Dr Archit Aggarwal recommends microdermabrasion to resolve skin issues such as wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, fine line, melasma, accident scars, precancerous skin patches, and so on, especially on people with a fairer skin tone.
The main benefits of dermabrasion include boosting collagen and reducing deep acne scars. The dermabrasion procedure is an outpatient procedure; hence, no downtime is involved. However, the skin takes a couple of weeks to recover, and the new skin will be pink and tender.
“I recommend both procedures as they each have their unique benefits,” said Dr Archit Aggarwal. He added,” At KDC skin clinic, we offer microneedling and microdermabrasion services using the best available equipment. Also, I recommend the most suitable procedure depending on each patient and their skin issues. As a dedicated doctor, I take efforts to provide the highest level of care and ensure that my patients are satisfied with the treatment and its results.
