Extra-luxurious Aman Resorts introduces Janu, a more reasonably priced brand. What it costs

Very few brands are as synonymous with “quiet luxury” as Aman Resorts. Its hotels—Amanoi in Vietnam, Aman Sveti Stefan in Montenegro, and the original Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand—bear the same name.

The brand’s fans, referred to as “Aman Junkies,” are used to paying top dollar for accommodations at Aman New York, which opened in August 2022. Rates start at $3,200 per night.

But soon, there will be an alternative for tourists who don’t want to spend this much money.

The first hotel under Aman’s new, more reasonably priced sister brand, Janu Tokyo, is scheduled to open in March 2024.

According to Vlad Doronin, CEO of Aman, Janu was developed in response to demand from a larger group of visitors. According to a press release, it will have a “different pace and spirit” but will otherwise be designed and operated similarly to Aman Hotels.

Inside Janu Tokyo

According to the company, Janu Tokyo will feature eight restaurants and a 4,000-square-meter wellness center with a gym, a thermal and hydrotherapy area, cold and hot plunge pools, and a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber.

Like Aman Hotels, Janu Tokyo is a 13-story building with 122 rooms and suites designed with a focus on symmetry and minimalism.

The interior designer of the hotel, Jean-Michel Gathy, who has designed numerous Aman hotels as well as the One&Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives and The St. Regis Lhasa in Tibet, described the design as having “a youthful energy, brimming with liveliness and playfulness that sets it apart from the poised and composed character of Aman.”

The majority of rooms have a private balcony with views of Azabudai Hills, a brand-new urban development in Minato City’s special ward.

More affordable?

The company states that the starting nightly rate at Janu Tokyo is $944.

Rates for entry-level rooms rise to approximately $1,400 per night, tax included, during the 2024 year-end peak season. This is comparable to what an entry-level room at Amanoi in Vietnam would cost simultaneously.

According to the company, twelve more Janu hotels are planned for locations such as Saudi Arabia, Montenegro, Turks and Caicos, United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Portugal, Thailand, Turkey, and the Maldives.
