EuroBasket 2022, the newest edition of the quadrennial competition to decide the basketball champion of Europe, warned Thursday (Sept. 1) and runs through Sept. 18 with games in the Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, and Germany. The knockout stage of the competition, including the final, will be held in Berlin. Luka Doncic and defending champions Slovenia should defend their title in 2021, when the 2020 Olympics were delayed a year because of COVID-19, EuroBasket was likewise pushed back.
The slight schedule adjustment won’t influence future competitions, and the next event will be held in 2025 as scheduled.
Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo will play for Greece while reigning consecutive MVP Nikola Jokic will prepare for Serbia. Those two, alongside Doncic, feature the list of NBA players who will be in action when the competition kicks off. Additionally worth watching is France, which won the silver medal at the 2020 Olympics. France has five NBA players getting ready, including three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.

The competition EuroBasket 2022 will start with the group stage, which features four groups of six teams. Each group will play a round-robin, in which each team will play the other five teams in its group once.
Teams will get two points for success and one point for a loss, and the top four teams in each group will progress to the knockout stage. Assuming two teams are tied in points, their head-to-head matchup will be the first tiebreaker. Ensuing tiebreakers will be point differential followed by points scored if necessary.
The 16 teams that develop to the knockout stage will then, at that point, be placed in a bracket in light of their qualifying position. From that point, it’s single-elimination matchups as far as possible until the last, which will be played in Berlin on Sept. 18.
