Here is a look at 20 important companies in identity, access, and data security, ranging from vendors offering identity and data security to providers of security service edge.
Attackers are still using their go-to strategies from the previous few years in 2024. These include a strong preference for identity-based attacks and the targeting of employees in settings outside the company firewall, like remote work.
In the meantime, attacks centered on data theft and extortion have increased the significance of data security, and the risk of data exposure through the use of GenAI tools only increases it.
Several of the leading suppliers in the connected, though distinct, fields of identity protection, data security, and security service edge (SSE) have come together to form the list that follows. Certain vendors on our list may provide more than one of these technologies, or all three, as Microsoft does.
Important identity security vendors on our list, in addition to Microsoft, include Okta and Ping Identity, two of Gartner’s “leaders” quadrant selections for the research firm’s 2023 Magic Quadrant for Access Management.
Regarding SSE, which is an integrated collection of technologies aimed at providing safe remote access to programs and other resources, two of the vendors on our list are Zscaler and Netskope; both companies were placed in Gartner’s 2023 “leaders” quadrant. (We’ve decided to include several SSE vendors with a history in the network space, including Palo Alto Networks, the third “leader” on Gartner’s 2023 Magic Quadrant for SSE, in our upcoming Network Security category for this year’s Security 100.)
The 20 identity, access, and data security firms that made our Security 100 for 2024 are listed below.
