At CES 2024, Samsung introduces the first transparent MicroLED screen globally
To CES, there are usually a lot of surprises. Samsung hinted to the world’s first transparent MicroLED display at its First Look event.
Although the price and release date of this technology for retail products are still unknown, Samsung unveiled three distinct transparent micro LED screens, each with a slightly different look. While one of the demo units had a frameless design and seemed to be just as transparent as standard glass, the other two had tinted glass that made it simpler to ignore any potential districting items behind the panels.
It’s difficult to put into words the effect that Samsung’s translucent tiny OLED screens have in person—content appears to float in midair like a hologram. The demo units were all freestanding and had a thickness of only a few centimeters, which further enhances the appearance of a floating screen. Additionally, visuals were exceptionally sharp because to the high pixel density of tiny LEDs. Samsung has only released one vertical video so far, but it should give you an indication of what was seen:
A Samsung spokesperson stated that transparent MicroLED displays are less affected by ambient light because they are brighter than transparent OLED panels.
The bad news is that it will be a while before these new screens are reasonably priced, with Samsung’s current line of non-transparent MicroLED TVs costing $150,000 for a 110-inch model.
