Amazon Launches Its 2024 Christmas Marketing Campaign Ad What the World Needs Now Is Love

Amazon has announced its 2024 Christmas marketing campaign, which emphasizes the importance of small acts of kindness. Set to the 1965 classic “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” Amazon’s 2024 Christmas advertising emphasizes the powerful influence that thoughtful gifts and gestures can make. It’s especially interesting because it shows how you can get nearly anything on Amazon!

The campaign’s centerpiece is a 90-second hero spot about a theater janitor whose hidden singing talent is uncovered and recognized by his coworkers during his shift. Amazon’s in-house creative team created the spot.

The advert, which is set to the 1965 Burt Bacharach-Hal David classic, “What the World Needs Now is Love,” shows how easy gifting is with Amazon’s quick delivery and wide range of products.

Midnight Opus, directed by Wayne McClammy and produced in collaboration with Hungry Man, will be available on television, video-on-demand, online, in cinemas, and on social media.

Amazon’s 2024 Christmas ad was created by Amazon’s internal creative team in collaboration with production company Hungry Man and directed by award-winning director Wayne McClammy. The ad will be available in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, and Sweden on November 4th, and in the United States and Canada on November 18th, and will run until December.

Amazon’s 2024 holiday marketing campaign demonstrates how simple considerate acts may create joy and bring people together. The main attraction is the heartwarming brand film “Midnight Opus,” which follows a theater janitor whose hidden vocal talent is recognized and acknowledged by his coworkers during his daily shift.

The spot starts with a janitor going about his daily tasks in the theater while softly singing to himself. We get a peek at his lifelong passion for singing when he opens his locker and reveals a photo of himself as a younger man performing on stage. When his colleagues hear his wonderful voice, which gently echoes through the empty halls of the grand building, they are inspired to plan a special surprise. Coming together as a community, they turn the elaborate Sonnet theater into a proper performance stage, complete with lighting, staging, and—to his amazement—an instrumental accompaniment.

With a little help from Amazon, the last touch is a quick delivery of an elegant black tuxedo jacket, allowing the humble star to step into the spotlight and just ‘Sing’, as encouraged by his admiring coworkers. As his coworkers take their seats, the janitor performs a touching performance of the legendary 1965 Bacharach-David classic “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” demonstrating his outstanding and surprising vocal prowess. Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s classic “What the World Needs Now” has become a timeless anthem, covered by pop royalty, featured in cherished TV shows and films, and performed in karaoke rooms around the world, reminding us all of the enduring power of love, connection, and compassion.

The film captures the thrill of supporting others’ goals, as well as the spirit of professional camaraderie. It recognizes the fortitude required to offer one’s gifts and demonstrates how seemingly modest efforts can lead to deeply important experiences. “‘Midnight Opus’ is a story that celebrates the joy of doing something special for the people in your life. I think we all know how wonderful it feels to be the recipient of even the smallest act of kindness – whether that be a thoughtful gift or an encouraging word – and we wanted to bring that ineffable emotion to life,” said Jo Shoesmith, Global Chief Creative Officer at Amazon.

Ed Smith, GM of EU Integrated Marketing at Amazon added, “I love that our community of thoughtful and inventive customers are the inspiration for our campaign, we are honored to play even a small part in helping make these moments of connection and generosity possible. We hope that ‘Midnight Opus’ inspires viewers to embrace the spirit of lifting each other this holiday season and that they feel they can relate to the story, whether they’re the ones following their dreams, or supporting others in achieving theirs.”
