Snapchat introduces its very own ChatGPT-powered chatbot, “My AI”
Snapchat, a well-known social media app, introduced its very own chatbot on Monday with the name “My AI.” It made use of the most recent version of ChatGPT, the generative text tool that OpenAI is developing at a rapid rate.
My AI is a custom chatbot that is currently only available to Snapchat+ subscribers for a monthly subscription fee of $3.99 that grants them access to “exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features.”
The new fictitious companion is described as a “fun and experimental sidekick” by Snapchat.
In a demonstration of My AI, Snapchat said, “Chat about your day or write a haiku about your bestie.”
In a press release revealing the new feature, Snapchat stated that My AI can also suggest dinner recipes, assist users in planning weekend trips, and suggest birthday presents for friends.
The company claims that the chatbot can also be given a name.
Despite bugs, embraced by professionals
ChatGPT has been quickly adopted by professionals in a variety of fields, serving as writing content, administrative assistant, and even legal functions.
In its first month of availability, ChatGPT has amassed 57 million monthly active users, surpassing the most popular consumer apps to date in terms of the number of new users it has gained.
Experts have been impressed by its capabilities, but they have also expressed concern about the certainty with which the generative text tool occasionally disseminates false information.
“At the risk of having visions”
“As with all AI-powered chatbots, My AI is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying just about anything,” Snapchat stated in a warning.
“Please be aware of its many deficiencies and sorry in advance!” Snapchat added.
To improve accuracy, the company will review user conversations with My AI and store them. It advises users not to rely on My AI for advice or to share secrets with it.
At the same time, Snapchat members are encouraged to ask My AI for recommendations regarding dinner, gifts, and weekend plans.
Evan Spiegel, co-founder, and CEO of Snapchat stated that the company’s adoption of AI-powered chatbots coincides with the increasing incorporation of AI into our day-to-day lives.
He stated, “The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day. And this is something we’re well positioned to do as a messaging service.”
