Strong payment security is required for all users, especially the younger ones who will be the country’s future business owners, due to the increasingly digital nature of our financial transactions. Nowadays, being proficient in digital safety is essential. In fiscal year 2023–24, digital payment frauds increased fivefold, according to the Reserve Bank of India. The necessity for young entrepreneurs to have a greater understanding of payment security is further highlighted by this trend.
In honor of World Youth Skills Day, Visa offers simple tips to assist young adults and business owners in creating secure routines that will protect them against payment fraud.
Give tokenized payment methods top priority while making online purchases. To lower the risk of a data breach, tokenization creates unique transaction codes rather than disclosing your credit card number. Using safe payment options when conducting online business as a young entrepreneur boosts client trust.
Tokenization has become widely used throughout the country since its debut. India showed its dedication to safe transactions by issuing more than 560 million tokenized cards by November 2023.
AI is used by scammers to generate believable spoof emails, websites, and phone calls. Scams such as Phishing frequently prey on young people, taking personal data such as passwords.
To prevent clicking on suspicious links in emails or texts, one should always double-check URLs before entering any information. Unwanted calls or messages requesting card details, passwords, OTPs, or PINs should be avoided.
To be informed about account actions, enable transaction alerts using applications. You can quickly identify any unusual activity with the help of these notifications, which warn you each time your card is used. Keep an eye out for unauthorized charges on your account statements. Transaction alerts assist you as an entrepreneur in monitoring the finances of your company and spotting possible fraudulent activity.
According to Visa’s “Fraudulese: The Language of Fraud” report, while determining the authenticity of communications, four out of five consumers pay close attention to deceptive details like logos and taglines—things that scammers can readily change. Remarkably, less than half check order numbers with companies they’ve worked with or make sure spelling is correct. Pay attention to these subtle cues and make sure that any communication is legitimate and secure.
Immediately notify your bank and government authorities for a follow-up inquiry if you become a victim of a scam despite taking precautions. To report cybercrime, use the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or call the National Cybercrime Helpline at 1930. To increase public awareness and protect others, share your experiences with coworkers, relatives, and older residents.
Young entrepreneurs can navigate the digital landscape with confidence if they arm themselves with three essential payment security skills on World Youth Skills Day. Their endeavors will be protected by this proactive strategy, which will also make the digital ecosystem safer and more secure overall.
