2024 Winter Classic date, location, teams, and more

The T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, will host the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic. The Seattle Mariners play their home games at the stadium. In keeping with the traditional New Year’s Day celebration, the major game is scheduled for Monday, January 1, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. PST. The Winter Classic is always held on New Year’s Day, except in 2023 when it falls on a Sunday.

In the 2024 Winter Classic, the Vegas Golden Knights, the defending Stanley Cup champions, will take on the Seattle Kraken. The home team will be the Kraken. TNT will be the only channel to air The Winter Classic.

The Kraken are the newest NHL team, and the Golden Knights are the second-newest. While the Kraken joined the league in 2021, the Golden Knights did so in 2017.

The Golden Knights won the Pacific Division in 2022–2023. In its six seasons of existence, the team has advanced to the Stanley Cup playoffs five times. The group won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 2023.

The previous season, the Kraken finished fourth in the Pacific Division. Despite having only played in two NHL seasons, they have already made one postseason appearance. In 2022–2023 they were awarded a wild-card spot in the Western Conference and advanced to the second round before losing.

In this game, there are a lot of interesting players to watch. Matty Beniers, a center for the Krakens, took home the Calder Memorial Trophy as the 2022–2023 best rookie. Jared McCann of the Krakens scored forty goals in the previous campaign. On the list of the top 50 NHL players published by NHL Network, center Jack Eichel of the Golden Knights is currently ranked No. 20. Alex Pietrangelo, a defenseman for the Golden Knights, was ranked 37th.

The Kraken and Golden Knights will square off three more times this season, on October 10, 2023, March 21, 2024, in Vegas, and March 12, 2024, in Seattle, in addition to on New Year’s Day.

The 2024 NHL Winter Classic jerseys were unveiled

The Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Krakens’ Winter Classic 2024 jerseys were just unveiled by the NHL and Adidas. These jerseys combine customary elements with design elements to honor the hockey histories of both cities.

The Seattle Metropolitans, the 1917 Stanley Cup winners, served as the model for the Seattle Kraken jersey. The jersey has cream and blue stripes, and the year “1917” is emblazoned on the collar.

In homage to the hand-stitched hockey jerseys from Seattle’s past, the felt “S” logo is displayed on the front of the jersey along with carefully constructed lettering and numbers.

The Vegas Golden Knights jersey, on the other hand, includes details that honor their hockey history. Antique white and heritage gold have taken the place of the team’s traditional bright gold color.

Player names and numbers are adorned with intricate filigree petals and chain accents, as is the “V” logo. Their pants feature a cursive “Vegas” wordmark, while their barber pole socks match the jersey.

The NHL Winter Classic Event Patch from 2024, which represents their participation in the competition, is proudly displayed on the shoulder of both outfits.

This will be Seattle’s first outdoor Winter Classic and the first to be held in the Pacific Time Zone. Vegas made an earlier appearance in the NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe in 2021.

Additionally, this will be the first Winter Classic held in a stadium with a retractable roof. In the event of significant rain, the retractable roof of T-Mobile Park was scheduled to be closed by organizers due to Seattle’s wet climate, which could potentially impact ice conditions. This could lead to the first “indoor” Winter Classic, the first since the Vancouver, BC Place Heritage Classic in 2014.
