2023 FIBA AfroCan – Full Schedule, Participating Nations, Key Players to Watch and More

The FIBA AfroCan 2023 will be held for the second edition. The competition will take place in Angola from July 8 to July 16, 2023. DR Congo is the defending champion after winning the 2019 championship. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the second tournament that was scheduled to take place in 2021 has been postponed.

The four-year wait for the FIBA AfroCan is over as twelve countries from throughout Africa are anticipated in Luanda to battle for the championship.

There are two spots in this 12-nation tournament reserved for players from Africa. It is a quadrennial competition with the dual goal of introducing African basketball talents to the world game and advancing the sport on the continent.

HOW TO WATCH THE 2023 FIBA AFROCAN?

The COURTSIDE 1891 PORTAL, which accepts subscriptions only, will broadcast games.

The event will receive enhanced coverage via FIBA Africa’s social media platforms.

2023 FIBA AfroCan HISTORY OF HOST NATIONS

It will be interesting to see if Angola can make history by becoming the first FIBA AfroCan host nation to triumph in front of their home fans.

Mali did everything right in Group A four years ago, defeating Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire, but their chances of winning their first-ever continental trophy were dashed by a 69-61 loss to Morocco in the Quarterfinals.

CAN ANGOLA CONTINUE TO DO WELL ON HOME SOIL?

Angola has a history of winning at home, but will they be able to defend their home court?

Before Cote d’Ivoire became the first team to defeat Angola in Angola – for the first time in three decades – in November 2021 during the first round of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers hosted in the Southern city of Benguela, Angola dominated their opponents at home for years.

MVP – Abdlehakim Zouita of Morocco is the only one of the many great players who will compete in the Luanda showcase who has earned a FIBA Africa MVP award.

In Rades, Tunisia, Zouita won the MVP honour for the 2017 FIBA Africa Champions Cup while guiding his former team AS Sale to victory.

He was honoured as the 2022–23 Morocco League Playoff Finals MVP last week.

2023 FIBA AfroCan OTHER PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT
